SameSpace
The upgrade of an existing office building for a technology company. The design works through a set of moves on the existing mass, adding a core, a sculptural stair, a series of inserts, a new envelope and an outer skin.
The intent was to strengthen the identity the building already had. Its mark is carried onto the mesh of the new facade, and the frontage at street level is given to retail.
Galla Foods
The office front of a mango juice plant, where the brief asked for a contemporary public face for the factory. The new structure frames the original factory wall and its painted mural, which stays in view from the street and from the rooms inside.
The pattern of cutouts in the facade was set by a study of solar radiation across its panels.
Residence in the Hills
A private residence whose roof sets a traditional East Asian form against a modern reading of it. The peaks and troughs of the roof follow the waves and the mountain behind the site, and its geometry was defined in a parametric script.
The traditional East Asian roof is a two dimensional extrusion of cylinders, which gives it a clean and linear geometry.
The reimagined roof is generated from spheres in three dimensions. It keeps the key geometry and proportions of the traditional form, with simpler curves and more depth.
AIRE
A net zero experience center in a tech park, with twelve metre ceilings, a planted facade that flowers and a passive cooling strategy. The project was carried as its single point of contact, from the first massing diagram to the construction details.
The envelope combines a solar roof, planted walls and a raised floor. The details resolve its edges, from the floor drain and the raised tile floor to the lighting cove in the ceiling.
The same brief produced the Brookfield Experience Center at The Bay, an interior within an existing workplace. It is planned as a sequence of entry, gathering, lounge and meeting spaces, finished in warm metal and marble.
Interventions at Ecoworld
An upgradation of the Ecoworld tech park through a set of interventions placed across the existing campus. Each was developed as a study model, and some have since been built, among them the glass pavilions at the edge of the campus.
The three massing options that follow belong to a separate project, the redevelopment of another tech park in Bangalore.
Shell India Workplace
The refurbishment of 50,000 square feet of Shell's office in India. The work covered the interiors of the workplace and the full set of drawings and graphics that set them out.
Folded Chair
A chair folded from a single continuous metal plate. One sheet is bent to form the seat, the back and the legs, and the same method produces a bench. The drawings give the plan, the elevation and the unfolded plate with the angle of each fold.
Architectural Thesis
The Public Domain reprograms a public library as a cultural hub. The thesis starts from the growing distance between the public and its institutional buildings, and proposes public space built around a library that can adapt to the people who use it.
The form starts from a rigid orthogonal sculpture that is made elastic, and the resulting web runs through the regular grid of rooms on each floor. The library block places a cafe, a reading lounge, retail and an art gallery at its base, the general, children's and teen libraries above them, and silent reading, reference, coworking, studios and classrooms at the top. A perforated shell forms its public face.
